Using the MLA at IEG Södermalm

I gave a one hour training session to staff at IEG Södermalm this morning on how to use the MLA Style Guide in teaching. The school’s management team is committed to promoting an atmosphere of intellectual rigour and creating ways in which to prepare students for university and beyond.
I made the accompanying slideshow available after the session on Slideshare so staff could take it and develop it for use in the classroom. If you want the 16 page handout that goes with the slideshow, you’re welcome to email me.
NB! A word of warning about the slides. What looks lovely on a Mac using Keynote doesn’t translate particularly well to Powerpoint.

Well done Jon! I love when the academical stuff is mixed up with some lighter/humourus pictures.
This thing with plagiarism is very important, and something you struggle with almost every day as a teacher. One favourite is “Source:Google” Because of the Interet our students have access to an enormous ammount of information and sometimes they don’t have a clue of how to organize it. Another problem as well is that they don’t know how to use the library or books.
Do you think we will use books for information in the future?
Thanks for your encouragement!
It’s not just students that are challenged by this kind of thinking, staff are too. That’s why I was asked to come in and talk to them about this.
I DO think books have a future, but digital media are here to stay and are going to take more and more place in our lives. Educators have to respond to the challenge this involves.
