WordPress Blogging with the Thesis Theme

I’ve had some problems with my kennel website the last couple of weeks. To put it simply, I wasn’t happy with the hosting company because the site was often down. As I’m working to a tight deadline with a translation of a 300 page book, I needed to move quickly if I changed host because I don’t have a lot of spare time right now.

Enter WordPress + Thesis.
I’ve spied Chris Person’s kick-ass Thesis theme for Wordpress around the Net for a while now and always admired it (and particularly the sterling work Lisa Firke is doing customising it).

Generally preferring to use ExpressionEngine, I’ve stuck to my guns and gone down that route for sites like Jontus Media.com and when I’ve built things for customers. But faced with needing to get a site up and running ASAP to help promote the litter of basset hounds currently next to my desk, I decided to put myself at the mercy of WordPress and Thesis. Partly because both have a reputation of being SEO friendly, and also because I wanted something that would sparkle straight out of the box.

A few days in I’m very impressed by WordPress 2.7 and just how easy it is to use. Thesis and all it’s lovely little design tweaks is also really splendid. It’s clearly laid out and the help guide is easy to follow. I love the copywriting that’s gone under the hood.

Although I’m not tied into their affiliate programme, I just want to recommend Thesis / WordPress to you if you’re looking for a software package that would suit a small-business blog. Of all the pro-themes I’ve come across, this one pays attention to design, ease-of-use, SEO and clear, concise non technical copy. I love the clear instructions, custom features and funny, quirky bits of copy that definitely amuse.

Have you used Thesis? What do you reckon?

Update
So I was ultimately so impressed with the WP/Thesis set-up that I decided to change Jontusmedia.com to it on Feb 18, 2009.

    Absolutely no problem!
  • Oh no, thank you Jon. Sorry I tried to be somewhat tactful about it.

I'm very happy with it, and definitely looking forward to the imminent release of 1.7

I agree that it's ideally suited to small business users but it's getting so imperative to have a really good custom design. Thanks for sharing your link (a-hem!) :=)
  • Yeah I finally broke down about three months ago and purchased the Thesis developers option. I'm very happy that I decided to make the investment. I've used the theme for three sites so far with another in the works. I even did a site for my roomate's maid service. I've been seeing the theme used more and more for small businesses. I know it's served my roomate well. I would also recommend the combo to anyone looking for a solution for their small business. Oh and by the way, speaking of the "quirky copy", how about that "Big Ass Save Button". Good Stuff.
